Neurosis is always a substitute for the actual suffering

OK, we all know what Attachment Parenting is about. If you don't have the slightest idea, please go away from this blog!
But how about self parenting for those of us who have grown up being victims of abusive parents day in day out? How do we take care of ourselves? How do we finally learn to respect ourselves, to give ourselves the equal dignity that Jesper Juul asks us to give our children? How do we come out of the vicious circle of anger, pain, shame, guilt, perfectionism and feelings of inadequacy?
After 6 years of therapy and knowing that the only way out is through the pain, I still have to ask myself: how do we confront and endure so much pain? How do we finally get rid of the idealised and internalised parents? How do we dare to be ourselves when we have been manipulated our whole life to be someone else? How do we learn to trust ourselves and our feelings again? How do we learn to accept ourselves the way we are, to love and nurture ourselves the way we are? How do we stop feeling lost and abandoned? How do heal?
